BRAZUCA:
Outstanding New Club
of 2010-2011
BRAZUCA is proud to announce that it has received the Outstanding New Club of 2010-2011 award by UTSU!
This recognition has called attention of many brazilian journalists in Toronto, such as Jornal da Gente, CBC Radio Canada and Vozes Latinas Radio. Here are some links to the interviews:
WHAT'S ON
After an encouraging start in the winter of 2009-2010, BRAZUCA enters the new school year with great enthusiasm. This should be the time of our groups transition from an incipient project into a solid reality in the University of Toronto.
The success of our first events proved that the groups ideals and objectives have gained the essential recognition and support from U of T students. This encourages us to broaden our objectives and further pursue our goals with eagerness and excitement. We would like to thank all of those who believe in BRAZUCA's potential and we assure you that you will not be disappointed in the upcoming season.
We will start off the year at Clubs Day; our whole team will be there to meet you and to answer your questions about the group. It is the opportunity for you to become an official member, so we would really like to see you there! Also in September, we will be having a Brazilian Picnic at Queens Park. In October, we will be hosting another movie night and, in November, we will organize a tournament of the sport all Brazilians love (needless to say what it is!). Please check the Upcoming Events link for further information.
If you haven't done so already, please join our Facebook group and stay tuned for updates of our upcoming events. We wish you all a great academic year!

Our Logo
Dear BRAZUCA members, soon-to-be-members, or simply followers. It is with great pleasure that we would like to introduce to you BRAZUCAs new logo.
In order to represent BRAZUCA (Brazilians United in Canada), our concern was of creating a logo that truly promoted the idea of unity between both countries. Hence, we incorporated the Brazilians geometrical and colorful flag into Canada's national symbol, the maple leaf.
We hope you like it ;D
Credits for the logos design go to our VP of marketing Klara Yang!
Getting to know Carnaval
If you ask any Brazilian what is the most important event happening this week, the last thing that will be on their minds is the Winter Olympic Games. This week of February, while all Canadians have their eyes fixed on Vancouver, cheering for their athletes and celebrating their gold medals, Brazilians are commemorating something entirely different but just as vibrant: its world-known Carnaval.
Carnaval is Brazil's most famous annual party which takes place in February, 40 days before Easter to be precise. It consists of non-stop celebrations and festivities for one entire week in which people dress-up in costumes, dance, sing, and party in the streets. Each region has its unique way and style of celebrating Carnaval: Sao Paulo and Rio have beautiful samba schools competitions; Bahia has street parties to the sound of their local music genre which is axé; Pernambuco has a special kind of rhythm and dance called frevo. Those are just a few of the most famous states with Carnaval parties, but continuous celebration takes place in every city wherever you go.
For those of you who have never heard of Carnaval it is most definitely worth checking out and for those of you who one day think of going to Brazil, this is a show you do not want to miss!
